Spinning in the Rain Quilt

A Spinning in the Rain Quilt Finish

This summer, I made a resolution to  sew together the finished blocks for a few of my  quilts, and not leave these pretty blocks just  sitting around  in a sad pile.

The first thing I did was to enlist  the help of my trusty  " Head Quilty Helper" , Whiskers!
(She might have some  engagements  booked .... such as   napping or  quality testing the quiltiness of a quilt.)

Whiskers loves Aurifil Thread!!  Especially the 50 weight!
\

Zzzzzzzz    "Pins??  Where?? "   Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Sometimes, she even sleeps on her OWN little mini quilt!

Since she is such a willing helper, she gets first choice on which quilting tools she gets to use......

"I want this one, Mom.  It's just my size."

Well, Whiskers, go ahead and give everyone the quilt information:

"I love my job! "

"I'm getting a bit sleepy now.  Can you take over now, Mom?"

I loved using this stretched out "S" stitch , on my sewing machine, with the walking foot.

"Lazy S" quilting, with Aurifil Thread

I am not a "heavy" quilter....  but I am trying new things.
Thanks for the quilting advice of  adding  a "  9 inch square within a square"  in the center of every block, Amy!  ( My sister, who blogs at Amy Made That!"  )  Aren't I lucky?!

This is the back side of my quilt.
Did you see in the quilt stats,  that the smaller 6 inch block pattern was included in the instructions?
I decided to pick out a favorite pinwheel, and make a row of 6 inch pinwheels, to insert in between the two larger pieces of fabric for the backing.

This is one of my favorites color combinations....gray and turquoise !

Last March,  I made a coordinating pillow  (using my Simply Striped Pillow tutorial pattern  that is  available on Craftsy { here })   ( see my blog post here )

I really love the green floral fabric on the border!!

"Hint,  Hint,  Hint........"

I guess Whiskers is ready for her cat nap now....

"Put me in the CATS ON QUILTS  category, Jacque !"

Whiskers wanted me to tell you that she has had so much fun being in the

Day 2 of The Simply Striped Pillow Blog Hop

Day 2 of the Simply Striped Pillow Blog Hop !

            Simply Striped Pillow Blog Hop
                             March 3

Welcome to my first Blog Hop on Susie's Sunroom!

I invited six "super star" quilters to make a pillow "any way you like" from  one pattern-
the Simply Striped Accent Pillow Pattern   { available on my Craftsy here}!
This is my tutorial style pattern for making a 13 inch square  decorative pillow.

Today, the second day of the blog hop  , I am sharing a pillow done  the "Susie's Sunroom" way !

Meet Susie and her creative consultant,  Whiskers

I decided to make a pillow that would coordinate with the Spinning In the Rain Block of the Month quilt that I am making.  ( Spinning in the Rain BoM at Sew Lux Fabrics.)
I am using  the   V and Co.  " Color Me Happy" fabric line for the quilt, and absolutely LOVE this fabric!

Block #9, has a large and a mini size paper pieced pinwheel.   The mini block measures 6 inches square, and I thought how cute would a 3 inch teensie block be!

 A Color Me Happy Pinwheel family   { the pillow is flat here}

My Simply Striped Accent Pillow with a paper pieced  pinwheel stripe     Susie's Sunroom

The pillow back- I used the white kona fabric that is the background fabric in my quilt

I am so happy when I look at my new Spinning in the Rain pillow!!

You can make your own version of a pillow to coordinate with a quilt you are making .                             The pattern is avalable in my Craftsy Shop {here}.

I can't wait to see the other pillows from  all of these amazing quilters...

Patchique' and Spinning in the Rain Block Talk

Patchique' and Spinning in the Rain Block Talk

Hop on over to The Patchsmith blog
~to see her beautiful blocks

My goodness , but time has flown by since we first began to make these Patchique' blocks.
Amanda, The Patchsmith, told us on her blog that we have   only 8 more blocks to make for her  quilt!  That's four corner blocks, and 4 more in the 7th row!    I have a tall bed frame, and really need to go and measure my bed ( yes... NOW !) to  have some exact measurements for my quilt.

The next two blocks were not complicated and were enjoyable to make.

Patchique' Block #45:  Komochi kume igeta (Grouped well-curb whirlpool)

Block #45 l
from the Japanese Taupe Quilts book

And this is my Block #45:  Grouped  well-curb whirlpool

#45  Grouped well -curb whirlpool   Susie's Sunroom

It has a part-sewn seam in it. The directions were well written, and I finished the block easily.
True confession-   I did start to add the second piece in the wrong direction, and  had to rip out abut 2 1/2 inches of stitches .  (No biggy.)
My  husband caught on to  the "overlap" in the block right away, and liked that concept.

Patchique' block #70:  Shikishi  ( Calligraphy cards)

Block #70 from the book

The star is formed by laying the blocks of fabric at the right places.

This is my Calligraphy cards block-

Amanda,  always looking ahead, has  created  a beautiful  layout  for her blocks in  our Patchique'  Quilt Sew Along....

These blocks are Amanda's actual blocks, in her fabrics and colors

I wondered what  my blocks  would look like in this layout.    So I filled in an excel chart to see , even though I did not put in sashing around the blocks:

I think it will work pretty well for me, too.  (Happy dance!)

Now, here's my  Spinning in the Rain block #4:

Spinning in the Rain BoM  #4  Sept.     Susie's Sunroom

This block was paper pieced!  ( Yep, I did a happy dance when I printed out the pattern!)
Block #4 is a vibrant one,  with the green polka dot pinwheels jumping out .

Here they are so far... June, July , August and September       Susie's Sunroom

And here they are with their mini's ! ( Mini pinwheel cuteness!)

I fell in love with this sweet little block!  And , I had to mark a "  LOVE!"  in the book on this page!

Then, since I loved this fabric combination so much, I used them again on block #24.
