Happy New Year

Happy New Year!

Remember the Snow Star block I made in this post?

Snow Star    pattern  from Paper Piecing 1/4 " magazine   issue 3  here

I decided to make this 7 inch block  into a pillow.  I will enjoy looking at it for the remaining winter months.

A flat Snow Star pillow cover

A plumper Snow Star pillow

I added some borders, to make this a 12 inches x 16 inches pillow.

Here's the back.....   I have added a covered zipper back.
The best tutorial for this is by Amy at Amy Made That !

This fabric reminds me of a snow storm on the back.

This was a fun and quick project. I love making pillows and  paper pieced blocks.

See you in the new year.... stop by to see what our first Across The Pond Sew Along project theme is in 2015 !

Snow Star

A Snow Star

The mild weather is gone.  It is now perfect sewing weather!!
And, today  I whipped up a Snow Star block.

My inspiration:

                    A winter walk....

The Pattern:           Snow Star  pp064        by Janeen at Quilt Art Designs
from Paper Piecing 1/4"  digital magazine   Isssue 3  Oct - Dec 2014

I picked out some fabrics... with snowflakes and stars, in winter blues and some grays....

Christmas Stocking-    with  minky -like dimpled fabric
It  's only 6 inches square, but so cute with the minky fabric trimming!

I have four blocks so far... to make into a table runner or table topper.  (For next year, most likely !!)

Christmas Blocks Part 3

Making a  Christmas Table Runner

The clock is ticking away towards Christmas Day....
Is its meter really picking up speed, or is it just my imagination....

I left off here earlier this week:

Santa Hat    and Candy Cane   paper pieced blocks

Christmas Candy Cane

Christmas Block

Every time I find a little bit of time, I try to squeeze in some time to make something new for the holiday.
Are you looking for a quick project, too?

This little  paper pieced block measures 6 inches, and is quick and easy to make.

I am thinking of making a table runner ... adding the Santa Hat and  then picking out another Christmas block from Quilt Art Designs ( to be determined yet!)
Santa Hat

Quilt Art Designs  blog  currently has  a free  daily Christmas pattern---one per day, that is free for the day it is released!   After their release, then the patterns  are available in her Craftsy shop.

Check out the stocking pattern ....  I am thinking of making that one to add to this project...

A Nordic Finish

December has been a busy month already! But after  I started sewing , "just one row" , in this adorable Nordic Mini Quilt Along, at The Crafty Quilter ,  I "made time" to finish the other three rows!  ( This mini quilt is definitely "squeeze it in" worthy!!"

Row 1  The Nordic Star

These little  star blocks are about four inches finished , with 25 pieces in each block.

Before I knew it, I had my other three rows made!  The other rows are faster to sew up.
I love the woven texture look that the Norwegian Heart blocks have!

I  decided to bring the gray color into my quilt.  (The Patchsmith added touches of gray to her Nordic Mini Quilt.  I am just a big old   "copy cat.")

Touches of gray in my rows

Simple quilting around the main shape in gray Aurifil Thread

I used the  Machine Binding Tutorial, by Amy Made That!  and my walking foot .   It took  a lot of ironing , and lots of pinning  before I  started to sew, but the extra preparation paid off.

.

Love those Wonder Clips
Finished quilt size:  14 1/4 in x 14 1/4 in

I really enjoyed making this Nordic Mini Quilt!  I think I will be making another one in January, as my daughter has put in a request.  Julie has also included the sizes and directions for making these blocks in 12 inch sizes, too!    {Click here for the tutorial

Santas

December's Across The Pond Sew Along Theme

See what we have been making {here}

What is the theme for December's Across The Pond Sew Along?

                                      Santas  and Christmas Trees!

Perfect December fun!  And we think you will find these projects fast and fun , and perfect for creating  future keepsakes and for your holiday giving!

I have some Santa projects  to share with you, and Amanda, will be spotlighting some Christmas Tree projects for you.

But I can't help but show you this....
Amanda, The Patchsmith, has been staying up late at night, dreaming up a new pattern....  the Quilted Tree pattern.  It is just so clever and  adorable!  Hop on over to The Patchsmith to get her new FREE pattern and see her little quilted trees decorated, Patchsmith style,  and to see more Christmas Tree projects!!

Just sew  darn cute, aren't they ? !!

First Santa Project-     the Christmas Hat       ~  a paper pieced block pattern
 by Janeen ,  from   the digital magazine "Paper Piecing 1/4"  issue 3  click { here}

I loved this design , and from the start, wanted to try to make the white furry parts of Santa's hat with some "Minkie Dimple-like " fabric.
It worked surprisingly well with paper piecing.
WARNING-  do not iron this synthetic material.  I finger pressed my seams as I made the block.   And it does create bits of white fur scraps from cutting.

I started to feel "jolly" as Santa's Hat began to come together, when joining the sections!
~see my  past blog

And this is my completed Santa's Christmas Hat:

I would love to make this into a pillow... and may possibly add some ornament blocks, by Janeen , Quilt Art Designs, to the front!

Isn't this adorable?  I hope to make a few very soon, and will put them on my blog.
My sister Amy , of Amy Made That! ,  made ornaments like this, many years ago before I learned to quilt. So I was delighted to find these directions and a pattern.  I will be making  some  of these little  Santas to give as gifts.

Third Santa Project:   Santa Face Pillow  and Ornament
design by Sabra at  Sew A Straight Line       click {here} for pillow in 3 sizes
                   and  Mini  Ornament  directions click {here}

I made my pillows with different homespun fabrics, furry fleece, and jingle bells.

There are 3 sizes of pillows!!  See the little mini ornaments!

The ornaments look so cute in a basket!

Furry cuteness!

Peek A Boo !
I made one with scraps,too!

As you can see,  it is easy to make LOTS of  Santas!  I liked cutting out all of the pattern pieces first,  and then sewing them in batches.  The blanket stitch is made with my Viking Topaz, in black thread.  I stuffed them, added the jingle bell, and did the hand stitching while watching tv.

If you make any ATPSA projects, you can share them with us at our Flickr Group HERE.

Come on by and visit my blog all during December, as I make more holiday projects!

And, let me know if you find yourself   addicted to  making LOTS of anything I have shared with you today!  Hope you have fun making your Christmas projects!
