The "Sew The Rainbow" Quilt Finish

 "Sew The Rainbow" Quilt

I am so excited to share my finished "Sew The Rainbow" quilt with you!

Sew The Rainbow quilt -
Pattern by Kristy at Quiet Play
Quilt Details:

Pattern-  Sew The Rainbow   by Kristy at Quiet Play  {here}
               - a paper pieced pattern

Aurifil Spool pattern:    by Charise Creates {here}, from  the Splendid Sampler.

Size-    41" x55"  approx.

Fabrics-   Mimosa  by Windham fabrics,  a fat quarter bundle
               Line Dried- by Connecting Threads for the background fabric

Thread-  Aurifl #2021  50 wt. for quilting

Quilting-   Horizontal straight lines, one inch apart, using the walking foot

Batting-  Warm and Natural, cotton
Binding-   hand sewn to the back
Here's what the front and back side looked like before I made it into a quilt sandwich:

by Susie's Sunroom
Have you noticed that giant spool of "Aurifil " thread ?!

I wanted a big spool to be the center of my quilt back.  Then, I pieced  together 4 fat quarters left from my Mimosa fat quarter bundle.
I enlarged the  Aurifil spool  pattern  ( by Charise Creates ) to create a 19" high Aurifil spool, loaded with "Mismosa" thread!

Whiskers was exhausted after helping me make the quilt sandwich!

Close up of the back... of course I had to make an Aurifil Spool label, too!

This is the first time I used straight line quilting on a bigger quilt. I really like how it turned out!  I used my walking foot, with the Edge/Quilting guide attachment, to make the parallel rows of quilting.    (I may have copied Kristy's  gorgeous Sew The Rainbow Quilt { go here} because it looked so awesome!  )

Sew The Rainbow quilt   by Susie's Sunroom

This quilt was so satisfying to make and finish up! It has "sew many" of my favorite components... geometric design, scissors, spools, flying geese, a sewing machine, AND  paper piecing !!   Even on the dreariest of days, I can find a rainbow ....by  looking at my  Sew The Rainbow quilt !

I'm off to my sewing room!

Rainbow Sewing

August has been busy... in a good kind of "sewing" way!
I have been having sew much fun helping test some patterns from some of favorite designers!   If you follow me on my Instgram, you have seen  photos already.

*  Sew The Rainbow Quilt   -a paper pieced dream quilt!

Kristy has designed a quilt... that features her  popular Geometric Sewing Machine block, and is surround by these sewing goodies... spools, scissors and flying geese!!

This is Kristy's quilt...

    Want to see my version?

I had a  plump , unused,  fat quarter bundle of Mimosa fabric, by Another Point of View   Windham Fabrics, and some pretty blenders ... Basics from Connecting Threads, just waiting to be used!    I even had the low volume  Line Dried fabric, which would  prove to be perfect for the background fabric!

I started  getting excited here...  (I made the scissors first.  The sewing machine was my reward!!)

The geometric sewing machine and four pairs of scissors!

And then Whiskers began to get excited!!
Whiskers...  my little quilty helper

Be still my heart.... there are Spools and  Flying Geese !

The spools are big enough to let you feature a fabric.  Mimosa is a beautiful line!!

And here is my finished flimsy top!

I had to put the backing construction for this quilt on "pause" for a bit... while working on some other test patterns.

But I have a great idea brewing.....
Come back soon to see progress on my Sew The Rainbow Quilt,  and see the other  cute projects I have been working on !!

Some More Zoo Animals

More Zoo Animals

I have been busy paper piecing up some more Zoo Animals, for the fun and adorable
Zoo Animals BoM,  by Kristy at Quiet Play blog.

Patterns at Quiet Play

 Some of my followers may have seen  these finished blocks on my IG and Flickr group previously...

I 'd like to introduce :

Mr. Penguin:      February's Block of the Month

Penguin  Zoo Animal   Quiet Play  pattern { here }

He's a sharp little dresser in his dotty tuxedo!   I love his little tonal gray dots  (from my stash.)

And meet Mr. Giraffe:

 Mr. Giraffe:   May's Block of the Month

Giraffe  pattern  at Quiet Play  {here }

He seems to have a calm and serene personality, doesn't he?  ( Or maybe he is  just preoccupied with looking for some leaves to munch on?!  )

Next,  meet Mr. Blue Macaw:       June's Block of the Month

Blue Macaw block       Quiet Play pattern { here }

It took a long time for me to decide upon which fabrics to use for this bright little guy.  I wanted to use this aqua/turquoise geometric batik fabric,  but it had " a problem " with my blue background fabric.  I was delighted when  I discovered this leafy, ferny tonal batik in my stash.  I hope it gives the feel of this Blue Macaw being in the jungle and trees....

And lastly,  let's meet cutie pie , Mr. Koala Bear:    July's FREE Block of the Month

Koala Bear block    a FREE pattern during July   { here }

He's a bashful little fellow, but came out to specially to say hi to you!  I think he has such kind eyes.... don't you?   I love his little white fur patch  on his chest.

Want to see all of my  Zoo Animals blocks so far?
Hold still, everyone!

7 Blocks completed so far !!    You can get the  pattern for the whole bunch
 Quiet Play patterns {here }

Sew.... just two more blocks until this BoM will be rounding up!

Geometric Bird Pillow

A "Tweet" Pillow for Summer

Remember this sweet Geometric Bird block that I made in June?  ( posted here )

Geometric Bird pattern  by Kristy @ Quiet Play
(paper pieced)

What happens when you add some  1 1/2 " sash borders ,  a zipper ( for the  backing)  and a plump little 16 " square pillow insert?

Summer Cuteness!!

Geometric Bird pillow    by  Susie's Sunroom

Back of pillow   ~  using the Covered zipper tutorial  by Amy Made That!
This zipper opening on the pillow back is super easy to make,
 when you follow Amy's tutorial!!   { here }  I used the  scraps from the sash borders to make the cover over the zipper.

(  I love buying my zippers at  Etsy Zip It !  (I am not compensated by Zip It!  I just love her selection and the excellent  customer service! )

Guess what?! The USA  pillow form company,  Pillow Cubes,  has given me a COUPON  code for a 10% discount,  for any Susie's Sunroom readers!!

The code is ~      susiepillow

Use coupon code  susiepillow for 10% off your order

If you are like me, and make LOTS of pillows, then this is an awesome deal!!
I can  buy them by the box, at a really good price!  Then I can stuff them into my closets  store them away, and I'll  have a pillow insert ready for whenever the " pillow making whimsy "  hits me ... even  at 9 pm at night !!

For example, as of today:     The cost per  pillow is under $5  ---- for a  box of 14  -  16 inch square pillow inserts (made in the USA) .  That includes shipping, and using the  "susiepillow" coupon code!    (pillowcubes.com

That's a "tweet deal" using the coupon code " susiepillow"  at PillowCubes.com

I'm off to my sewing room!

***  I am not receiving anything from PillowCubes.com... just passing on a coupon code that was offered for my viewers!  ***

I added a few details ...

I embroidered " Susie's Cookies  2014 " on the cookie jar  (by machine)-

I put two little red buttons on the drawers in Betty's kitchen-

I used aqua polka dotted fabric for the back, and used a decorative stitch to sew a label to the backing.

I like the aqua and white binding...

One of my favorite blocks... the teapot

I really love this bowl and spoon block, too!

I used 2 command hooks (3M) to hang the wallhanging on my sunroom wall....

It is hanging  beside last year's BoM,   And Sew On  -

I can't wait to see what Kristy is designing for next year's  BoM !
