Hi,   I’m Amanda,   also known as the Patchsmith and I am thrilled to be showcasing Susie’s wonderful Simply Striped Accent Pillow pattern today.   

My passion is designing mini quilt and mug rug patterns but I also love to make a pillow or two (we call them cushions here in England).  

I love the simplicity of Susie's Simply Striped Pillow pattern with its envelope closing and easy-to-follow instructions.  It was so quick and easy to make that I even had time to add a little touch of Patchsmith whimsy.

Block Talk - Patchique blocks #13 and #93

Amanda and I are getting close to finishing up the blocks for our Patchique Quilt Project... Sewing Along with The Patchsmith.   I have 2 more new  blocks to add to my pile of Japanese Taupe Quilt inspired blocks...

Block #13:  Yottsu masu  (means Four square measures):

This was a fun block to make.  We make four smaller blocks, and sew them together.  There are 76 pieces of fabric in this 9 1/2 inch block!

Here is my interpretation of the Four square measures # 13:

This block was also fun to create.   
What does my  layout look like so far?   I will be adding sashes and a block in each outer corner, too....

I measured my bed ,  and I think I'd like to have my quilt measure at  96 in x 96 in.

My goodness , but time has flown by since we first began to make these Patchique' blocks.

Amanda, The Patchsmith, told us on her blog that we have   only 8 more blocks to make for her  quilt!  That's four corner blocks, and 4 more in the 7th row!    I have a tall bed frame, and really need to go and measure my bed ( yes... NOW !) to  have some exact measurements for my quilt.  

The next two blocks were not complicated and were enjoyable to make.

It has a part-sewn seam in it. The directions were well written, and I finished the block easily.
True confession-   I did start to add the second piece in the wrong direction, and  had to rip out abut 2 1/2 inches of stitches .  (No biggy.)
My  husband caught on to  the "overlap" in the block right away, and liked that concept.

I wondered what  my blocks  would look like in this layout.    So I filled in an excel chart to see , even though I did not put in sashing around the blocks:

This block was paper pieced!  ( Yep, I did a happy dance when I printed out the pattern!)
Block #4 is a vibrant one,  with the green polka dot pinwheels jumping out .

Block Talk in August

This week I have two Patchique' Blocks and two Sew Kitschy BoMs  to share with you.

Patchique' Block #2 :  Shima ichimatsu (which means Stripe Check)

I followed the helpful tips that Amanda, The Patchsmith , has explained  in her blog post ,  since this block is made up of 36 two-inch squares.  It involves sewing the two fabrics in 2 inch strips together, and cutting that new strip crosswise.  I was happy that it all turned out, using my scant quarter inch.

Patchique' Block #106:    Ken giku  (which means Sword-petaled chrysanthemum)

This block is basically a dresden plate, with 16 petals.  I wanted the flower to be brown, with green and red colors to be featured.  I started sewing, and held my breath when it came to adding the last petal into the circle... and the petals fit in beautifully.  Whew!

Participating in a Mug Rug Swap

I was in Quilting Gallery's Springtime Flowers Mug Rug Swap

This past month, I had so much fun being in a mug rug swap, called Springtime Flowers!
Michele, at Quilting Gallery, organized the swap and  coordinated the partners,  and Amanda, The Patchsmith designed the two mug rug patterns that we made for our partners!

I was lucky enough to be matched  to one partner,  Judee, and then I made friends  with Debbie, on the Quilting Gallery Swaps  facebook page.  Debbie and I decided to have a little swap between ourselves, too!   How lucky am I !!

Here is the two mug  rug set that  Amanda, The Patchsmith, designed for the swap:

Aren't they cute and happy??!!  If you love these,  you can see ALL of The Patchsmith's patterns here! (They are so affordable and fun!)  There is bound to be one for any occasion that you could want!!

So, here are the mug rugs that I made for Judee:

I loved using some green  batik strips for the growing flowers' leaves,  and some measuring tape fabric for the flowers in the pot!  I added buttons for the center of those flowers.

I also made a little matching basket

Amanda's patterns are so adaptable... I put the applique' butterflies on one side of a mini basket.  And on the other side....

... some  flowers!

I put together a little bundle of goodies, and sent it off to Judee.

Now to show you the two Springtime Flowers mug rugs that I made for Debbie~

  

I added some 3-D yoyos for the center of the flowers in the basket.  And made the butterfly with the measuring tape fabric in the second mug rug.

I made a key fob and a mini boxy pouch for Debbie, in some sewing fabric

It's just big enough for a chapstick and some money... with the lobster clasp

Here's the bunch of goodies that I sent off to Debbie....

And then, the mailman delivered  a package with these delightful handmade treasures, made by Debbie ....

Thank you so much, Debbie, for your mug rugs, the gorgeous bracelet and beautiful scarf!   

And yes, in case you were wondering,  Debbie made these mug rugs a little oversized!  I love this Benartex fabric and her  applique' variations !

This swap made my Spring season  simply delightful!
