I just finished sewing my And Sew On BoM  paper pieced  blocks together!  We started the first block in January, and the year has just flown by!

As a recap,  here is a picture of my 9 blocks:

It took a lot of "thinking"  and "laying out fabric" time to pick the fabric and color for my sashes( the background).  

I decided on: 

•                      601 Sewing Kit  The Henley Studio  Makower UK    for sashing
•                      600 Scissors   The Henley Studio  Makower UK   for binding
•                      white tonal for the backing

 The colors in the 9  blocks popped out using these fabrics.  When I put a "matching" pale aqua or pale yellow for the background,   everything just looked "blah" to me.

Batting:   988 Pellon White Low Loft Sew-in Fleece

I added a few extra embroidery touches to some of the blocks before putting them together....

A tiny  "crystal" door knob

Thread coming off of the spool 

Needle   and a computer screen on my sewing machine

Steam from the coffee and an eye on the needle

I am going to hang my quilt on a wall in my sunroom, where I sew.   I hope to use the 3M Command hooks... I'll let you know how that turns out.

I also wanted to share another project with you, that I made featuring the Scissors Block:

By the way,  Kristy has just announced a new BoM for next year...with a retro kitchen theme!  What fun this will be!!    Before that begins , you can see all of Kristy's patterns in her Craftsy shop!  You will be amazed at all of the patterns she has created! 

I feel happy when I look at my quilt.... remembering many fun hours at my sewing machine , 'paper piecing' away! ... and so look forward to seeing everyone's quilts and projects!

Quiet Play  And Sew On Block of the month 9

September  brings in the cooler weather in the evening, and some beautiful blue skies during the days!  I call that perfect weather for sewing!   
 It also brings us to the ninth and last block in Quiet Play's  And Sew On Bom !  I will truly miss working on these blocks designed by Kristy.  (go on over to see all of her paper pieced patterns... they are fun and amazing! )

September's block is called  The Sewing Sanctuary.  This is the pattern:

This block was a challenge to come up with "just the right" fabrics, for all of the fun little details that you could place into this pattern 
(It did end up taking longer for me to choose these fabrics than the previous blocks.  But for a fun reason!)
I wanted to pick fabrics that I had used in many of the earlier blocks... for continuity in the 9 blocks. I chose a light blue color for the  wall so that it would not be too busy for the cute little  feature details.

                sewing notions  (in black and white , to carry those colors/fabrics through), in their little yellow polka dot frames

My chair-    Wish I had a yellow one , but in my real sewing room  I use some  antique chairs from my great-grandmother's restaurant... a connection to  fond childhood memories.

I love this yellow chair!  

The waste bucket-    another fun yellow touch.  There's no such thing as  too many  yellow touches in my  sewing room!

I wanted to use some  yellow gingham again.

What fun it has been making these!  Next, I will be figuring out how to put them all together in a mini quilt wall hanging .... for my sunroom!

Sew Much Fun With Blocks

August Blocks

August is flying by so quickly, isn't it?!  
Even though it has been very busy, I have been able to fit some fun blocks in this month.

First block:  the  August " And Sew On BoM"

This month's block is very detailed, and took quite a while for me to pick out my fabrics.  I wanted to use fabrics that I have used through  the other blocks, and also use some from scraps from my real stash piles.

I would love to have yellow gingham wallpaper in my sewing room!  (I would also love to have nice neat piles of fabric, too!!)

Wow, I think September will be the last block. Time is flying by...

Kristy, of Quiet Play,   is a busy lady  designing new blocks all the time.  Her patterns for paper piecing are available at Craftsy . She has 105 patterns in Craftsy so far!   

Check out her totally cute and fun knitting block. I was lucky to be a pattern tester for her. It will be in Craftsy soon....

I decided to use some fabric that my daughter liked when she visited recently.  And when she knits, she uses a lot of brown yarns.  So my block is tailored to her color tastes....

I added a sash for a border, and machine stitched some binding on to this cute block to finish it up

Shhh, don't tell my daughter I made this for her!  ;)

And, the third block I worked on is a Pinwheel Star Block that I saw at The Crafty Quilter.Julie has an excellent tutorial on how to construct this block.  I wanted to make it, because our August theme for Across The Pond Sew Along is pinwheels.

I had so much fun making this block.  And I learned some great tips from Julie,  such as how  to keep the seams lined up .  I added a sash and just need to do some quilting on it now.  I want to make it into a table topper.
