Today I am sharing my 4th, and final , block in the 'Adventures of Mr Whiskers' block series!!

The digital magazine, Paper Piecing 1/4" is now out with the first issue for 2018...
Issue 16 Jan - Mar 2018 ! { available HERE } The theme of this issue is " In the Garden.
There are 14 projects jam-packed in to Issue 16 !!

I guess he's been getting enough cat treats to fill up his tummy, as he fell asleep with a little fish still in his paw !

I think I will be making them into a wallhanging! Of course, these would be really cute if I made them into 18" pillows!!

Adventures of Mr Whiskers #2

Adventures of Mr Whiskers #2 Is Here!

The beginning of July means that a new issue of the digital paper pieced pattern magazine, called " Paper Piecing 1/4" Paper Piecing 1/4 "" is out! { Issue 14 July 2017 - Sept 2017 here } This pattern-filled magazine, available as a digital download, is designed by Janeen at Quilt Art Designs.

I just love the look on Mr Whiskers' face! I think he may be saying.... "Uh- Oh !! "

And look at this delicate Magnolia flower he is hanging next to!

I am planning on making this into a wallhanging, along with other blocks in the series of Mr Whiskers blocks that Janeen is designing. You may remember the first Mr Whiskers block , from issue #13 April 2017 - June 2017 . I blogged about this cute block here.

I made them with the same background fabric. Then, I pinned them together , so I can imagine what they will look like together ! I will also add sashing.

Cardinals

Cardinals Modern Mini

I love making holiday projects early. I also have found that if I don't make my Christmas projects "way- before" ( that's not a real word, is it? ) Christmas, I end up making no major projects.

Do you sew this way, or do you "sew well" under pressure?

I was delighted to make a modern mini pattern during September. It is a cool design from the new issue of the digital magazine Paper Piecing 1/4 " ( issue 7 Oct-Dec 2015).

The designs are by Janeen, over at Quilt Art Designs blog! Her modern designs are incredible and fun, and take me out of my traditional "comfort zone" !

Batting- Warm and Natural (scraps sewn together)

Thread- Aurifil White 50 weight

I was so excited to put all of the sections together! Can you see the white dots on the white background fabric? I wanted it to feel like it was snowing on Mr and Mrs Cardinal.
This may become my favorite winter background fabric. ( Lotta Dots by Connecting Threads)

The flimsy top

I was "auditioning" binding fabrics,in the above photo . I liked seeing something that felt earthy and bark-like.

I also had to figure out how to quilt and fill up the "negative" space on this design.
I decided to pick a focal point : the center of the spray of pine needles in the top right corner . Then I would continue lines of quilting outward from this point.
I hoped it would give a feeling of light radiating from this point, and also of snow blowing from this direction.

I used my trusty Walking Foot and Aurifil White 2024 thread, for machine quilting the flimsy top . It didn't take long to mark my lines with creases , using a long ruler and a Clover Hera Marker tool. (here )

in the right hand corner of the quilt

This is a close up of Mr and Mrs Cardinal. I love the details that Janeen put into each of these birds! The eye sections have 9 and 10 sections in them, with just a teensy bit of white!

The binding was sewn on the front, by machine, using my walking foot. Then I pressed it into place, and sewed it by hand onto the back. ( I love using these small, but mighty, Wonder Clips. ) I finished the hand sewing in one evening on this small quilt. This last bit of sewing the binding by hand is very comforting to me. It really connects me to the "quilt part" of the project !

It's ready for sewing the binding to the back of the quilt!

This Cardinals Mini project even got the "husband seal of approval !"

Fabric: Valentine Rose by Tanya Whelan at Free Spirit (ADORE this fabric line!)

Michael Miller Garden Pin Dot Petal Pink (such a Happy pink!)

the hugs and kisses patterns were reduced to 50% size, and inserted into the fabric as part of the top of the tea towel

The top section is perfect to feature the Hug and Kiss symbols.
And, I love the ruffle bottom on this tea towel !

The Hearts Pincushion -

the top and bottom pattern was substituted with the Hugs and Kisses heart blocks by Soma ...one made in pink fabric and one made in red fabric
filled with crushed walnut shell kitty litter (Blue Buffalo )

Now.... if you happen to be a regular follower of my blog, you probably figured out already that I wouldn't be able to stop at making " just 2 " little old small hearts....

What else did I make? A Table Runner using these hearts....
I got the idea after seeing a pretty Valentine's Day Table Runner made by Cherilyn at A Farm Wife's Journal... where she put heart blocks together with 9 Patch blocks.

I decided to use five of Soma's paper pieced heart blocks , and pair them with some jaunty little pinwheel blocks.

Pattern- Hearts- Soma's paper pieced hearts were reduced to become 6 1/2 " blocks . I made five of these.

Thread - Aurofil White 100 % cotton (50 weight)

I love pink gingham!

I used the Aurofil White thread (50 weight) for the first time, for both the piecing and the quilting. "in love with this thread"

A pink polka dot heart..... hey, where'd that bird come from?

These little hearts are so cute, that I wanted to make something using a smaller heart. So I made a little door handle pillow.
