Mr Whiskers Meets a New Friend ( or meal? )!

September was a busy month for me, as my choirs at church started rehearsing again, and I worked on  project testing some new patterns for some fabulous designers.

Today, the newest edition of " Paper Piecing 1/4" Digital Magazine  " is released!  These cute , modern foundation paper pieced patterns are created by the talented  Janeen, of Quilt Art Designs.   { avail HERE }

If you have been following my blog, you may be guessing that I will be sharing  the third block in QAD 's  " Adventures of Mr Whiskers " .  And you are right.

In the third block, Mr Whiskers happens upon a strange  creature...  is he friend or food ?   A "Freal" ( Friend/Meal) ??

Now one thing I love about Janeen's designs, is the attention she gives to the eyes.  Look at the details in this fish!!   I am not exaggerating....  the fish's left eyeball has  31 sections to it!

I have keeping busy and "out of trouble" , sewing some items for my Etsy shop.

I also  started sewing a Gypsy Wife Quilt this fall, too.   ( Pattern by Jen Kingwell.  )   I just couldn't resist. It is a fun sew along with   GnomeAngel  , and Instagram  @GnomeAngel .  You can see my IG pictures, by clicking on my IG pictures on the right sidebar.  I am having a blast putting together brash and bright fabrics, and mainly from my stash.  I realized I had some fabrics stashed away in a bundle from Tula Pink, Amy Butler and Alison Glass !

It's Little Birdies.... not Social Media!

I have been "twittering around" lately.... with paper pieced bird patterns, that is!!

I wanted to make this little chubby bird scrappy, and the leftovers from my
Spring Petals Table Topper { Summersville Spring} ( see here  ) were perfect !  

I plan to feature this Finch on the front of a tote bag, using  Brussels Washer Linen Yarn Tied Black.  (see below)

I plan  to add a sash border,and make a pretty  pillow with the little  geometric bird.

Perfect December fun!  And we think you will find these projects fast and fun , and perfect for creating  future keepsakes and for your holiday giving!

I have some Santa projects  to share with you, and Amanda, will be spotlighting some Christmas Tree projects for you.

But I can't help but show you this....

Just sew  darn cute, aren't they ? !!

First Santa Project-     the Christmas Hat       ~  a paper pieced block pattern

I loved this design , and from the start, wanted to try to make the white furry parts of Santa's hat with some "Minkie Dimple-like " fabric.

It worked surprisingly well with paper piecing. 

         WARNING-  do not iron this synthetic material.  I finger pressed my seams as I made the block.   And it does create bits of white fur scraps from cutting.

I started to feel "jolly" as Santa's Hat began to come together, when joining the sections!

Isn't this adorable?  I hope to make a few very soon, and will put them on my blog. 

My sister Amy , of Amy Made That! ,  made ornaments like this, many years ago before I learned to quilt. So I was delighted to find these directions and a pattern.  I will be making  some  of these little  Santas to give as gifts.

I made my pillows with different homespun fabrics, furry fleece, and jingle bells.

There are 3 sizes of pillows!!  See the little mini ornaments!

I made one with scraps,too!

As you can see,  it is easy to make LOTS of  Santas!  I liked cutting out all of the pattern pieces first,  and then sewing them in batches.  The blanket stitch is made with my Viking Topaz, in black thread.  I stuffed them, added the jingle bell, and did the hand stitching while watching tv.
