The Old Red Barn Block Farm Girl Vintage book |
Last week, we had a family reunion. I was in the middle of making some of the barn blocks, and had an idea to make a pillow as a thank you gift for my aunt and uncle. ( My aunt and uncle live on a farm, and have hosted reunions for many years in the past. We all watched our first Evening Primose open up to bloom, before our very eyes, at a reunion in the year 2000. Many of us now continue to grow these ugly weeds, that create a beautiful and delicate yellow flower. The Evening Primrose has become the unofficial symbol of our reunion. )

This is the pillow that I put together with a barn block from the Farm Girl Vintage book:

I used some black denim for the back. And the Covered Zipper back ( using Amy Made That! 's easy tutorial! { Get the tutorial Here}

My pillow beside the Evening Primrose blossoms from the night before. They will be gone by afternoon. |
Isn't this a fun barn block? |
I also made a second larger barn block...the Quilty Barn Block:
by Susie's Sunroom |
I also made two pillows for another two special aunts, who have hosted past reunions, and arranged for the revival of the 2015 family reunion. They live in historical towns, so I made them a tall house block to go along with their Evening Primrose blocks.

This is my favorite post from your blog!!! So much to love, and the pillows will be a family treasure!!!
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love all your farm blocks! And to turn those barn blocks into pillows is perfect, love that flower too. Well done Susie and so thoughtful for your reunion.
ReplyDeleteWhoa - don't you ever sleep?
ReplyDeleteLove the cushions - great idea and so generous. xxx
Someone's been a busy beaver!
ReplyDeleteI really like all the 30's prints you are using for your blocks, and the red ticking stripe was perfect for the barn pillow. Those old scraps really come in handy.
Oh my goodness Susie! You have done an amazing job with your Farm Girl blocks and completed so many of them too! I love your fabric choices. The red ticking makes the perfect barn siding too. The pillows you made are darling and the way you incorporated the evening primrose is so sweet. It is magical to watch them bloom - like time lapse photography.
ReplyDeleteWow, Susie! So many beautiful finishes. Amazing work!! The pillows are fabulous and both pieced and appliqué primroses are so beautiful. How great it is that you have a family flower. The red ticking fabric was a great find, perfect for the barn boards.
