Today I'll tell you all about my new fun and  favorite purse.
It's called " The Sling  Bag"  ....  and it is designed by Samantha ,  At Home With Mrs H  .
Samantha likes to call it , "  The Super Simple Slouchy Sling Bag ."
Did I mention that Samantha is super generous...and has this downloadable Craftsy pattern for FREE?!!

Fabrics:      Kaufman Essex Yarn Dyed Linen Blend Black
                      Denyse Schmidt   by Free Spirit  from my stash   
Closure:  a magnet snap
Handle strap:    I made mine with the two fabrics, and opted not to have the longer across -the -body strap

I love this Essex Yarn Dyed Linen fabric!  I wanted to have a strip of some color show on the outside front , so I added a 3 inch strip to the outer pieces.    I used  Pellon Fusible Fleece 987 interfacing for the outer and lining fabric.  It gives just the right stiffness to stand alone, and yet allow the bag to slouch!

A zippered pocket , and 2 slip pockets in the lining help keep my things organized

                                            

The pattern is very detailed , easy to follow, and has lots of pictures, making this a quick bag to make.

The first pattern that I found (and I want to make next) is:

This was one of those purchases that I made when buying some fabric from Quilt Home.com, where I picked out  a pattern that looked cute, to make "someday."

And here is my litte cell phone wallet~

Pouch dimensions:   6 "tall x 3 1/2 " top/ 5 1/4 " bottom
Adaptations:    

• I made the strap 12 " long x 1/2  inches wide
• I used a magnet snap in place of a pearl snap
• I added the fabric strips on to the main fabric front and back pocket

I wanted to use fabrics that matched a fun sling purse that I made recently...(I'll be posting about the purse this week...)

The back pocket holds the I phone... it just fits in it's Otter case.

The side view... how clever is this pattern?!

It is a very functional little wallet/cell phone .    There is one change I might make the next time I make this pattern....

 The back of the cell phone wallet is rather
 "bell shaped " at the bottom....

I might make the shape more rectangular, with   a uniform 4 1/2 " width at the  top and bottom.

March Patchique Blocks

March Patchique Blocks

With the arrival of MORE UNWANTED snow, I decided to ignore any  and all winter weather, and bury myself deeply in the making of some Patchique blocks!  This is always a calming and refreshing activity for me.  I know which blocks are the next to make, and I have all of the fabrics gathered in a laundry basket in my sunroom. (No wasted time trying to decide which project to do and which fabrics to use!)

First block:  # 16  ‘Kasuri kawari igeta’          “Kasuri well curb variation”
          (I have no idea what a well curb is, do you?)

I liked seeing that redish/orange center square of Susan Briscoe's block , and rushed to dig out my reds and the dark brown fabric out of my laundry basket for this block!   I sewed it carefully, making sure to use my scant quarter inch seam allowance, as Amanda warned it is hard to make this block the correct size.  I think I over-compensated in the center blocks, because my block came out to be a bit larger than 9 1/2 inches.  {But.... no complaint here!!}

I counted the number of pieces of fabric that this block uses... it is 45 ! I have decided not to count the number of pieces of fabric in these complicated blocks untilafter  I have finished the block up!!

Ah!   Do I see a yoyo in the center of this delicate Bellflower!  Yep!

This Bellflower wheel block is one of my favorites so far. I will add embroidery to each flower to make the sections appear.    I actually have White Peachleaf Bellflowers  growing  in my front yard!  They are so lovely and delicate !  And they are shaped like a bell!

This is Amanda, The Patchsmith's # 94 block....  I love her pink and green color pallet !   Isn't this a gorgeous block?

I think that Amanda has figured out that we have made half of the blocks needed for a queen size quilt!  

And, after looking at my flower pictures, I am so ready for spring and summer to arrive!
