The Satchel Bag and a Giveway

Making The Satchel Bag  and a GIVEAWAY here!

Recently,  I got to make a purse .. for a  brand new  pattern designed  by Samantha,  of  At Home With Mrs H !    Samantha has a fun  blog and is such a talented purse designer.

Her latest bag is called  The Satchel Bag :

The Satchel Bag  designed by Samantha, of At Home With  Mrs H
I was immediately drawn to the cute handle on top of the flap, with the hardware,  and the sides with the buttoned straps.  To tell you the truth, I was a little scared that these details would be hard to make.  But my fears vanished  as soon as I started the actual construction of the bag, using Samantha's directions and pictures.

Fabrics:    Outer-   Black denim  with some striation lines throughout  ( I wanted durable fabric)

Here's the button for the front flap

Lining fabric  :  Elizabeth's Studio Stitch in Time   Black Thimbles
I just love this fabric , and smile every time I look inside of my purse!

This is the black hardware for the adjustable strap
The Satchel Bag !     made by Susie

It has a roomy interior,  with a zippered pocket.  The flap is closed by 2 magnet snaps

I love the side straps, with the buttons!  I tucked the sides in a little to give my bag a little softer shape on the sides.

I just adore this purse!! I love  the  across-the-body purse handle , and the decorative handle on top of the flap.  Samantha has brought a modern shape to the classic satchel style.

Well, now I can tell you what the giveaway is!  Samantha (not only talented, but generous, too!!) is giving me a pdf pattern of The Satchel Bag  to give to a lucky winner !!

This weekend, I was able to give a few little presents to my daughter , in person!  That was so much fun.

I was just bursting until I could give her a sweet  little   Hedgehog Mug Rug,  designed by the  Queen of Mug Rug designs... Amanda,  The Patchsmith !

The Patchsmith  has this pattern,  and SO  many more , available in her Craftsy shop!!  They are in pdf format, so when you order them,  you get them in minutes!!  That's instant gratification , and you are ready to run with your project!!
Hedgehog Mug Rug   made by Amanda,  The Patchsmith

I saw  this mug rug on her blog and just knew I was going to make it for my daughter.  I even had some  fabric that has a little hedgie in the design in my stash!
Amanda's patterns and directions are a delight to use!  I use Heat-n-Bond to iron on the applique shapes. And my Viking Topaz has a little blanket stitch that I am using a lot on these mug rugs.
Susie's Hedgehog Mug Rug

I just love the X stitching on the hedgies' backs!   (  That is even on Amanda's pattern! Isn't she clever!!)  I did the Happy Dance last night when I found that stitch on my machine!!

The back side is cute, too!  I sewed the binding on by hand.
Fabrics:   Exclusively Quilters    -  Razzmatazz  Tree Brown , and some others in that line

I just stitched in the ditch on the bottom strip, with a long swirl.... Oh, look who has dropped in to say  hi!
Meet Patty

Say hi to  Patty,  my March bird  pincushion.   In case you are a visitor to my blog,  I began  my addiction  making these bird pincushions in our Across The Pond Sew Along, in Jan 2013.  They just seem to pop up whenever they  I feel like it .

Sew Retro 2 is Sew Fun!

Sew Retro Kitchen  .... is Sew Fun !

Today, I got to sew and have some fun in my sunroom.  Ahh...  moments of  sunshine, stitches  and bliss.

First project:      Test a  new paper pieced block for Kristy,  of Quiet Play

Earlier this year,  Kristy designed these  delicious blocks,  and they are currently available in her Craftsy store.
Kristy's Sew Retro Kitchen patterns     available at Craftsy now

I had such fun picking out fabric for this  new block.
I wanted to make the top -half background look like "wallpaper", and then I only  had to pull out my turquoise and red fabrics.
Susie's    Sew Retro 2 -  Mixing Bowl       designed   by Kristy@ Quiet Play

I just loved making this block!  It is fun to make, and you could split up the rolling pin from the mixing bowl, for separate projects!  Look for it soon on Kristy's blog.  And check out her other patterns, too!

Fabrics used:   Michael Miller  :   Mini Mike  Dot -N-Square
                                                Mini Mike  Dot Duo Red
                                                Mini Mike Tiny Gingham Cherry
                                                Aqua Red Daisy Doolittle Turquoise
                                                Stash solids

I will be making March's  And Sew On  BoM block next week.....

Second Project:  A Bow Clutch  purse for my daughter

When my daughter , "C",  was home over Christmas, she requested that I make a Bow Clutch bag for her.  She saw the bow clutch purse that I made   in June.
Bow Clutch     made for Purse Palooza
This is an excellent tutorial pattern found at  Elm Street Life, by Whitney .  If you have not "taken the plunge" to make a zippered pouch yet,  this is a good one to make.  I love this little pouch/purse!

My daughter wanted her bow clutch to be  in rust colors  and if possible, in  a houndstooth print.  I said, " I'll do what I can..."  I then looked  around on the internet, and finally  found  these rust fabrics at   Fabric.com !  Whew!!

Rust Bow Clutch  for "C"
It has a roomy inside
I added an interior slip pocket.  There is a lot of room for her phone and keys, and more.  She likes this size of purse because it slips easily in and out of her backpack.

The fabrics I used for this bow clutch:   Premier Prints Houndstooth Rust/Khaki
Quilter's Linen Print  Rust    *love this line!*

Skinny Charm Scarf

The Skinny on my  Charm Square Scarf

Last night, I made my March Across The Pond Sew Along project.
It is the Charm Square Scarf . (Amanda's pick this month.)

From Moda Bake Shop    Trish's charm square scarf

Trish , of Notes of Sincerity,  made this pattern, and it was featured as a recipe in  the Moda Bake Shop.  (go over there to see all of the free patterns for projects!)

Amanda,  The Patchsmith,   and Amy ,  Amy Made That!, and I  have  each made our own charms scarf.
Amanda's charm square scarf
I decided to make my scarf a little narrower. ( I have always liked my knit scarves skinny and long.)
I followed the pattern for the most part.
I did adapt the width of my scarf,  by cutting  the charms in half. Therefore,  each charm was now  2 1/2 inch wide x 5 inches tall  for my scarf.

I sewed two together for each row , making the width a total of 4 1/2 inches now.  (The original pattern calls for 9 1/2 inches.)
After I figured out the new dimensions of the scarf, I just had to choose my fabrics.
I wanted the colors to be light and spring-like, and I love pink and yellow!
I dug around in my stash,  and found the perfect thing to use.
My sister, Amy, had given  me some charm packs called Spring Pastel.  (It didn't say what company made them.) I have saved them for "just the right project."    I then  used  some Moda-  Lucy's Crab Shack  Daisies Blossom Pink  for my backing fabric.  (I didn't want to use flannel, like the pattern calls for.)

'Turning out' the narrow scarf was not difficult using the dowel rod.
My scarf is now ' rectangles' of pastel blocks

My skinny charm scarf with my cream colored coat

My scarf can be worn this way
Or.... worn this way !
I think I'll wear it this way when I go to the next quilt show!

Hey, join us in making  a charm scarf,   and upload a picture to our flickr group !  There are some pretty scarves in there already.   These make a cute gift... and you can actually make 2 scarves with one charm pack  when you half the charms , like I did!

Come back at the end of the week to see my giveaway in the
