Music in the air... and blog hops ,too!

Music in the air

Recently, I had the pleasure of testing some  paper pieced patterns for Kristy, of Quiet Play.  She is so creative and talented , as both  a quilter and a pattern designer!  Go on over and  check out her awesome patterns in her Craftsy store.  (There are 108 patterns in there now!)
I really enjoyed making these  blocks, because I have been involved with music for as long as I can remember.  (My  mother was a music teacher, and taught piano lessons at our house throughout my childhood. There was always music at school and in our home.)

The set is called Musical  Notes Paper Pieced  Pattern.   There are patterns for 5 blocks in this set, with each pattern making an 8 inch square block.

The Eighth note and Quarter note  blocks

The G clef,   Sixteenth note  , and Bass  clef    blocks
These last three blocks have lots of details !

The whole set....  Ta Da !!

I think I will make a pillow out of these someday... maybe for my mother!

The Escalator Block

September's Modern Blocks Quilt -Along

September's block in the Modern Blocks Quilt A Long is a fun block to make.  It is called  Escalator, and is designed by Ann Haley.  (Page 58 in the book, ' Modern Blocks'    compiled by Susanne Woods).
I wanted to use more colors  from the fat quarters (  Stitch Floral Square by Michael Miller) bundle that I have for this quilt along.

The four fabrics I hadn't used yet
The trick to this block is to pin carefully where any seams met.  And sewing with scant quarter inch seams.

Triangles are pinned along the edges

I  only had to trim off a little to square- up this block
I was happy how the seams met!

I had fun making this block, and will consider making something bigger from these blocks someday.  My mother saw it, and asked me if I was making a tie for my hubby!  It would make a cute tie, don't you think?

Next month, I'll have half of the blocks finished.  I'm learning a lot from making these blocks.

The  Pin It Blog Hop is beginning on Tuesday, September 10.  I can't wait to see all of the  pincushions!!  This will be an awesome way to get new ideas and patterns for pincushions....

So stop by every day for the list of bloggers for that day.  Remember, my day is Tuesday, Sept. 17 !  I had fun making mine!  (Hey, did I mention that I'm having a giveaway?)
